Playtown Hosting Upgrade

Kara from Playtown, a fun indoor play space for kids, recently upgraded her site’s hosting package. After a quick content update together in person, I rolled out a behind-the-scenes transformation to help her site run faster, safer, and smarter.

PlaytownHostingUpgrade

Goal

The goal was to boost performance, security, and ease of management without changing how Playtown already uses the site day to day. She wanted peace of mind knowing the site was up-to-date, loading fast for mobile users, and protected from downtime or security issues. Bonus: She was curious about how people were finding her site and what they were doing once they landed.

Approach

I upgraded her site to my Advanced Hosting package and got to work under the hood. Here’s what I set up:

  • Monthly plugin & theme updates for ongoing reliability

  • Image optimization to WebP for faster load times

  • Caching & code minification for smoother performance

  • Security monitoring to keep out digital riff-raff

  • Daily backups with 30-day storage for safety

  • Google Site Kit installation to track live traffic and search stats

I also reviewed her performance metrics and search visibility to get a clearer picture of how her site was doing.

Results

Playtown's site is now faster on desktop, better protected, and easier to maintain. It’s averaging 20 visitors a day, with 65% coming through Google search and 80% using mobile devices. She’s showing up for local family-focused search terms like:

  • “activities for toddlers near me”

  • “adventures with kids near me”

Desktop speed is looking great. Mobile speed still has room for improvement (currently ~7.4s load time), and now that the site is running on a better foundation, we’ve got solid next steps to keep leveling up.

🎉 Hosting Upgrade Wins: What We Did for Playtown

Kara over at Playtown recently asked me to upgrade her site’s hosting, and I’m glad she did.

After getting to meet in person last weekend and knock out a few quick content edits, I went ahead and moved her site to my Advanced Hosting setup. It's a quiet upgrade, but the improvements were anything but small.

Here’s what Kara’s site has working for it now:

Plugins & Themes Update Automatically

No more wondering if the site’s falling behind. Every month, her plugins and theme files get a clean update keeping her site secure, functional, and happy.

Images Now Load Faster

I converted all her images to WebP format — the newer, faster-loading image type that cuts down load times (especially important since 80% of her visitors are on mobile).

Backend Now Tuned for Performance

Caching and code minification are now in place behind the scenes. That means her site is running leaner and faster, especially on desktop where her speed is already looking great.

Security Is Watching the Door

Kara’s site is now being actively monitored for suspicious activity. If something weird tries to sneak in we’ll know, and we’ll handle it.

Daily Backups? Set

Her site is backed up every single day, and we keep those backups for 30 days. So if something goes sideways, we can roll it back like nothing ever happened.

She Can Now See Who’s Visiting

With Google Site Kit installed, Kara gets real-time data right from her dashboard — traffic, search terms, device breakdowns, and more. Turns out she’s getting around 20 visitors a day, with most finding her through Google.

She’s already showing up in search results for things like:

  • "activities for 5 year olds near me"

  • "adventures with kids near me"

  • "Playtown"

Not bad for a site that wasn’t doing much SEO yet.

What's Next?

Her desktop speed is great, but mobile still has room to improve (currently around 7.4s to fully load). Now that her foundation is stronger, we’ve got options: mobile speed optimization, SEO tuning, or content upgrades to help her climb further in search.

This was a fun one. Kara runs an awesome local business, and now her site is keeping up with her pace.
